Data error reading drive due to damaged data or damaged hard drive.
Cause:
Data or hard disk has been damaged
Solution:
Click the 'Start' menu, select 'Programs', select 'Accessories'. Select 'System Tools' and select 'ScanDisk'. Select the 'Thorough' radio button and click 'Start'.
NOTE 1: ScanDisk may take a considerable amount of time scanning large hard disks.
NOTE 2: Close all applications, including the Taskbar, before running ScanDisk.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Programs' and select 'Accessories'. (A submenu appears.)
3) Select 'System Tools' and select 'ScanDisk'. (The 'ScanDisk' dialog box appears.)
4) Select the desired drive to scan from the 'Select the drive(s) you want to check for errors' list box.
5) Select the 'Thorough' radio button.

6) (Optional) Select the 'Automatically fix errors' radio button to allow Windows to fix any errors found by ScanDisk.
7) Click 'Start'. (The input options gray out, and a progress indicator appears. If damaged data is found, the 'ScanDisk Found an Error on <drive>:' dialog box appears where <drive> is the letter of the drive being scanned.)
8) If you have not chosen for Windows to fix errors automatically, do one of the following:
a) For each error found, do one of the following:
1] Select the 'Discard lost file fragment(s) and recover disk space' radio button to delete the damaged data.
2] Select 'Convert the lost file fragment(s) into file(s)' radio button to save the data to a file or files.
3] Select 'Ignore this error and continue' to continue with ScanDisk without fixing the error.

b) Click 'OK'.
NOTE: If ScanDisk detects an error on the disk surface, the 'ScanDisk Needs to Restart' dialog box appears, prompting you to begin running ScanDisk again. Click 'OK' to restart ScanDisk.
9) When ScanDisk is finished, the 'ScanDisk Results <drive>' dialog box appears, where <drive> is the name of the selected drive.
10) Click 'Close' to close the 'ScanDisk Results <drive>' dialog box.
11) Click 'Close' to close 'ScanDisk'.
